DeWitt Landscape Fabric

Non-Woven Geotextile

Non-woven geotextile fabric made from strong polypropylene staple fibers that will not rot or decay. It keeps soil in place while permitting water to pass through, which is what separates a geotextile from a weed barrier.

It is commonly laid underneath foundations for soil stability, behind retaining walls and banks for permanent erosion control, and as cushioning on harder jobs — landfills, embankments, roads, sports stadiums and airfields. It is also used for asphalt overlay, providing a very stable base.

Three weights, and every roll covers 4,500 sq ft in one of two formats at the same price. So the weight decision is about the ground, and the format decision is about the shape of the area.

Non-Woven Geotextile Questions

Which weight do I need?

4 oz for drainage, filtration, garden separation and light-duty landscape work. 4.5 oz for the same with more margin where subgrade is softer or stone sharper. 8 oz for heavy-duty separation and cushioning — roads, embankments, landfills, stadiums, airfields.

Does the roll format change coverage?

No. The 12.5′ x 360′ and 15′ x 300′ both cover 4,500 sq ft at the same price. Choose the long narrow roll for trenches and drainage lines, the wide roll for pads and large areas.

What is the difference between woven and non-woven?

Non-woven is a filtration and separation product designed to be buried: water passes through the fabric body and it cushions. Woven has higher tensile strength but far lower flow, and lives at the surface. They are not interchangeable.

How is this different from soil filter fabric?

Overlapping products. Soil filter fabric is specified around drainage pipe and behind retaining walls in more weights and widths. This range is the broader separation, cushioning and asphalt overlay product.
