Heavy Grade Weed Barrier

This is the heavy grade weed barrier fabric, and it is not simply a heavier version of a standard barrier. It is constructed of both woven and non-woven fabrics, which gives it the high strength of a woven with the permeability of a non-woven — two properties that normally force a compromise.

Ranked on weed-control effectiveness, a hybrid like this sits at the top of the scale. If weeds are the problem you are actually solving, this is the fabric to buy.

It also carries two practical advantages a single-sided fabric cannot: a fuzzy textured face that grips the soil and anchors mulch against wind and rain, and printed 12″ planting stripes so rows and spacing come off the fabric instead of a tape measure.

Eight fabrics, and the first question is always the same: is the fabric going to live at the surface, or be buried? Surface fabrics block light and take exposure; buried fabrics pass water and separate layers.

Heavy Grade Weed Barrier Questions

Which side goes up?

The smooth woven face with the planting stripes goes up; the fuzzy non-woven face goes down against the soil, where it grips the ground and helps anchor mulch on top.

How much do I need?

All five widths are on 250-foot rolls, from 1,000 sq ft at 4′ up to 3,000 sq ft at 12′. Allow extra for the 4″–6″ overlap where runs meet.

How is this different from standard grade?

Construction, not just weight. This bonds a woven layer to a non-woven one; standard grade is a single polyspun material. On weed-control effectiveness the hybrid sits at the top of the scale and a 3 oz polyspun around the middle.

Can I use it under river rock?

Yes, and it is the better choice there. Angular stone is what punctures lightweight fabric during installation, often before the bed is finished.
