Driveway Fabric

Driveway fabric is a woven polypropylene geotextile with excellent puncture and tear resistant strength. Its primary use is soil separation over moderate subgrades — keeping the base course and the subgrade from mixing so the base keeps behaving like a base.

Two numbers make the case. Slit film wovens improve the long-term performance of a project by 50 to 70%, and they can save as much as 30% in base material costs — which on most driveways is more than the fabric costs.

Seven roll sizes, deliberately practical rather than one wholesale roll. Three of them cover 5,400 sq ft in different widths, so you can lay most driveways in a single pass with no seam under the wheel tracks.

Driveway Fabric Questions

Does it really save on base material?

Slit film wovens can save as much as 30% in base material costs, because a separated base holds its effective thickness instead of thinning as fines pump up and stone punches down.

Which roll size should I choose?

Match the width to the driveway so you can lay it in one pass. Three large rolls all give 5,400 sq ft in 12.5′, 15′ and 17.5′ widths; the smaller rolls run from 675 up to 1,800 sq ft.

Where should the overlap go?

Not under the wheel tracks. If the driveway is wider than the roll, plan the joint to fall between the tracks where load is lower.

Does it meet ICPI specifications?

Yes, it meets ICPI specifications for medium survivability of geotextiles, which is what most interlocking concrete pavement work is written against.
