Rigid 2′ molded panels that clip together, with raised 90° ribs on the face. The ribs are the point — they actively steer roots downward rather than just blocking them.
Strengths
- Vertical ribs actively direct roots down, which no other type does
- The best choice in tight spaces — concrete cutouts, medians, close to the trunk
- Rigid, so it holds a plumb line in the trench on its own
- Modular in 2′ increments — arcs, rings and straight runs from one product
- Five depths from 12″ to 48″
Weaknesses
- A joint every 2 feet, and joints are where roots find a way through
- Forcing an assembly into a tight circle puts load on those joints
- Thickness varies depending where on the panel you measure
- More pieces to carry, align and inspect on a long run
Choose it when the barrier sits close to the trunk or inside a confined cutout, and the tree needs its roots driven downward for stability.
