Drainfield fabric is a commercial grade spunbond polypropylene geotextile with high puncture resistance. Spunbond construction gives high water flow and excellent permittivity — exactly what a drainfield needs, with water moving freely through while soil and fines stay out.

It is a favorite among professional landscapers for its strength and versatility, and it is easy to cut and tear resistant — which matters when you are trimming around pipe, stone and wall faces rather than laying clean rectangles.

Two weights across five rolls. 2 oz for general landscaping and standard drain work; 3 oz where the stone is coarser, the backfill heavier, or puncture risk higher.

Drainfield Fabric Questions

2 oz or 3 oz?

2 oz for general landscaping, gardens and standard drainfield or french drain work in reasonable ground. 3 oz where the stone is coarser or more angular, the backfill heavier, or puncture risk higher — including retaining wall work.

How much do I need?

Every roll is 300 feet long: 1,800 sq ft at 6′, 2,400 at 8′ and 3,600 at 12′. Allow extra for overlaps, which are not optional on a filter layer.

How do I wrap a french drain?

Line the excavation, place the drainage stone, then fold the fabric back over the top so the aggregate is fully wrapped and fines cannot reach the pipe perforations.

How is this different from drainage fabric?

Construction. This is a spunbond woven-style fabric; drainage fabric is non-woven in weights from 3 to 16 oz for heavier separation and cushioning duties.
