Landscape Fabric

Standard Grade Weed Barrier

Contractor-grade polyspun weed barrier fabric for landscapes and flower gardens. It lets nutrients, water and air pass through to promote plant health while minimizing weed growth — which is what separates a fabric barrier from plastic sheeting.

Polyspun is fine denier yarn laid in random patterns, then point bonded and compressed. Because there is no weave, there is no repeating opening for weed roots to find over time.

If weeds are the problem you are actually solving, buy heavy grade instead. Standard grade is the right choice for light-duty beds with modest weed pressure, temporary plantings, or a job small enough that the 200 sq ft roll is the sensible purchase.

Standard Grade Weed Barrier Questions

Standard or heavy grade?

For most people, heavy grade. On weed-control effectiveness a 3 oz polyspun sits around the middle of the scale and the 5 oz hybrid at the top, and the gap is far larger than the price difference. Standard suits light-duty beds, temporary plantings, or very small jobs.

How much do I need?

Seven rolls from 200 up to 3,600 sq ft. Allow extra for the 4″–6″ overlap where runs meet.

Why polyspun rather than woven?

Polyspun is fine yarn laid in random patterns and point bonded, so there is no repeating weave for weed roots to probe through over time.

Does water get through it?

Yes. Nutrients, water and air all pass through, which promotes plant health while weed growth is minimized.
