Dewitt White Ground Cover UV Treated Woven Fabric

A 3.2 oz, UV-stabilized, white woven polypropylene UV resistant landscape fabric. It is a strong, heavy fabric, which is what makes it resistant to tearing, puncturing and weed penetration — and it is permeable, so water and nutrients pass through to nourish the plants rather than running off.

The white surface is the reason to choose it. Where a black fabric absorbs heat, white reflects — and that reflective property, combined with the thickness of the material, gives this fabric a second job that no black ground cover can do.

If you are also using it for frost protection, size for the wider of the two jobs. Covering plants and shrubs needs enough width to drape over the canopy and reach the ground either side, which is usually more than the bed width alone.

Worth noting the frost-protection use is a seasonal one. The same rolls can go down as ground cover through the growing season and come up to cover plants when a cold night is forecast, which is why growers tend to buy more than the ground area alone would suggest.

07 Installation

Two Ways To Use It

As ground cover: clear the area of existing weeds and debris, roll the fabric out along the bed, and secure it with landscape staples or fabric pins along the edges, at every seam and anywhere it lifts. Overlap adjacent runs rather than butting them, and cut planting holes no larger than the plant needs.

As a frost blanket: drape the fabric over the plants or shrubs before the cold sets in, letting it reach the ground on both sides so the day's warmth is held underneath and wind is kept off. Weight or pin the edges so it cannot lift, and remove it once the risk passes.

Reach the ground on both sides. Frost protection works by trapping heat radiating out of the soil and blocking wind. Fabric that only sits on top of the canopy does neither, which is the most common reason a frost cover disappoints.

Will it block weeds as well as black fabric?
