DeWitt Ultraweb 3000 Woven Ground Cover

The DeWitt Ultraweb 3000 is the woven ground cover fabric to reach for when you want cost effective and versatile weed control. Made of 100% woven black polypropylene and treated with UV protection, it is built for outdoor areas exposed to prolonged direct sunlight.

DeWitt has been manufacturing premium-quality weed control fabrics for more than 30 years. As pioneers in the field they now sell the widest selection of woven ground covers available, and are known for their weaving technology — the Ultraweb 3000 carries the highest UV protection available while retaining excellent water infiltration.

2.2ounce woven ground cover

The lightest woven fabric we stock, and the most cost effective per square foot — a modest investment for a superior ground cover.

02 The real comparison

Not Black Mulching Plastic

Standard black mulching plastics wear out after a few years and pass no water at all. Ultraweb 3000 is a woven fabric with the highest UV protection available, so it keeps working season after season while water still infiltrates through to the soil. That is the comparison that matters, and it is not close.

03 What you get

Benefits And Applications

  • 2.2 oz black landscape cover, woven weed control fabric
  • Durable and UV protected for extra protection from the sun's harmful rays
  • The highest UV protection available in the DeWitt woven range
  • Can be used for outdoor landscaping and indoor greenhouses and horticulture projects
  • Colored stripes spaced at every 12″ to help organize and line up plants and flowers
  • A modest investment for a superior ground cover that outperforms all others
  • Unbeatable weed control and cost efficient water savings
  • Excellent water infiltration — water reaches the soil rather than running off
UV protection is what you are actually buying. Any fabric will block weeds on day one. What separates a ground cover that lasts from one that shreds is how it handles years of direct sun, and that is where the treatment on this fabric earns its keep.

04 Sizing

Available Roll Sizes

Four rolls, all the same 2.2 oz fabric. Two coverage figures, each available as a long narrow roll or a shorter wide one — so match the width to what you are covering.

Part numberRoll sizeSq ftBest for
UW66006′ × 600′3,600Long narrow runs — rows, borders, nursery aisles
UW86008′ × 600′4,800Longer runs at a slightly wider bed width
UW1230012′ × 300′3,600Wide beds and greenhouse floors, same coverage as UW6600
UW1630016′ × 300′4,800The widest roll — fewest seams over large open areas
Two rolls per coverage figure, so choose on width. UW6600 and UW12300 both give 3,600 sq ft; UW8600 and UW16300 both give 4,800. The narrow rolls suit rows and borders, the wide rolls suit open ground — and matching roll width to bed width is what keeps offcuts and seams down.

06 Ultraweb or Sunbelt?

Choosing A Woven Fabric

Both are woven black polypropylene with 12″ spacing stripes, and both suit greenhouse and outdoor use. The difference is weight.

Ultraweb 3000 at 2.2 oz is the lighter, more cost effective option with the highest UV protection available. Sunbelt at 3.2 oz is the heavier fabric, with more tear and puncture resistance for areas that take more traffic.

07 Installation

Laying Ultraweb 3000

Surface laid and pinned. Clear the area of existing weeds and debris first, roll the fabric out along the bed, and secure it with landscape staples or fabric pins along the edges, at every seam, and anywhere the fabric lifts.

Overlap adjacent runs rather than butting them, and cut planting holes no larger than the plant needs. Every unnecessary opening is somewhere light can reach the soil, which is the one thing a ground cover exists to prevent.

Use the stripes. The colored stripes are spaced every 12″ specifically to help organize and line up plants and flowers. Set your spacing off the fabric and rows come out straight without a tape measure — on a nursery block or a long planting run that is most of the layout time gone.

10 Common questions

Woven Ground Cover FAQs

How much fabric do I need?
Work out the area in square feet and match it to a roll: 3,600 for the 6′ x 600′ or 12′ x 300′, and 4,800 for the 8′ x 600′ or 16′ x 300′. Allow extra for overlapping adjacent runs.
Which roll should I choose if two cover the same area?
Choose on width. UW6600 and UW12300 both give 3,600 sq ft — use the 6′ roll for rows, borders and nursery aisles, and the 12′ roll for wide beds and greenhouse floors. Matching roll width to bed width keeps offcuts and seams down.
How is Ultraweb different from Sunbelt?
Weight. Ultraweb 3000 is 2.2 oz, the lighter and more cost effective fabric with the highest UV protection available. Sunbelt is 3.2 oz, heavier, with more tear and puncture resistance for areas taking more traffic.
Does water get through it?
Yes — it has excellent water infiltration properties, which is the main advantage over black mulching plastic. Water reaches the soil rather than running off the surface.
How does it compare to black plastic sheeting?
Standard black mulching plastics wear out after a few years and pass no water at all. This is a woven fabric with the highest UV protection available, so it keeps working season after season while water still infiltrates through.
What are the stripes for?
Layout. The colored stripes are spaced every 12″ to help organize and line up plants and flowers, so spacing comes off the fabric instead of a tape measure.
Can I use it in a greenhouse?
Yes. It is made for outdoor landscaping and for indoor greenhouse and horticulture projects alike.
Will it break down in sunlight?
It carries the highest UV protection available in the DeWitt woven range, which is what makes it the right choice for areas exposed to prolonged direct sunlight rather than only for shaded or covered use.
How do I secure it?
Landscape staples or fabric pins along the edges, at every seam, and anywhere the fabric lifts. Overlap adjacent runs rather than butting them together.
What does shipping cost?
Nothing. Shipping is free on every order, at any quantity.
