01 Superior Strength Solvent-Based

The Original Professional-Grade Retaining Wall Adhesive

SRW Superior Strength Solvent-Based is the retaining wall adhesive hardscape contractors have reached for on countless projects across the United States and Canada for over 35 years — the original VOC formula, time-tested and proven as the strongest adhesive of its kind.

It is built for the conditions retaining walls actually get built in. It bonds on wet or frozen surfaces, extrudes down to 10°F, will not freeze in the tube, and forms a permanent bond on block, pavers, concrete and natural stone — interior or exterior. Each carton contains twelve tubes, in your choice of 10 oz or 28 oz.

10°Fstill extrudes — bonds on wet or frozen surfaces

The solvent-based formula is the cold-weather workhorse of the family: it will not freeze, and it keeps working in conditions that stop water-based products cold.

02 Why it works

Strength First, In Any Weather

For over 35 years this ORIGINAL VOC formula has been the highest-strength adhesive of its kind. It performs under extreme heat and cold — application temperatures run from 10°F to 120°F — and it works on the damp, cold, real-world surfaces a wall crew meets in the shoulder seasons. Securing caps, copings and seat walls, it forms a permanent bond you set once and forget.

04 How far a tube goes

Coverage Per Tube

Cut the tip for a 1/4" to 3/8" bead. Use the 3/8" bead on tumbled products, where the irregular surface needs the extra adhesive to make full contact.

A full positive connection of adhesive to both surfaces is necessary — apply no more adhesive than you can cover within the 10-minute working time.

05 Where it goes

What It Bonds

The classic use is locking cap units and copings to the top course of a segmental retaining wall, but the same formula works across most common landscaping and construction materials.

Retaining walls Wall caps & copings Pavers Block Firepit kits Concrete Metals Wood Natural stone
  • Interior and exterior materials.
  • Wet or frozen surfaces are workable — no waiting for a dry, warm day.
  • Permanent bond once cured.
Not for every material: do not use on plastic, rubber or fiberglass, in continuous submersion or below the waterline, or in direct contact with flames or fire brick.

06 Application

Four Steps To A Permanent Bond

  1. Clean the surface. Surfaces must be clean and free from oil, grease, dust, excessive water, ice or anything else that could interfere with adhesion.
  2. Load the cartridge gun. Cut the tip on a slant for a 1/4" to 3/8" bead, puncture the inner seal, and place the tube in the gun.
  3. Apply a continuous bead. Run the adhesive onto one of the surfaces — and apply no more than you can cover in 10 minutes.
  4. Press and flash. Press the surfaces together firmly. For faster curing, lift the top unit and immediately reposition it (flashing). Vertical applications require permanent horizontal support.

07 Getting the best result

User Tips

  • Application temperatures: 10°F – 120°F for both the adhesive and the surfaces.
  • Flashing shortens cure time. Lift the cap or block for a couple of seconds and reposition it to speed setup; full cure runs 3–7 days.
  • Let it breathe. The surface must be able to dry out for 24–48 hours after applying the adhesive.
  • Cleanup: tools and wet adhesive clean up with mineral spirits — follow the solvent vendor's precautions.
  • Storage: store upright, out of direct sunlight. 18-month shelf life, and low temperatures will not damage it.

12 Common questions

Retaining Wall Adhesive FAQs

How much does one tube cover?
With a 1/4" bead, a 10 oz tube runs 32 feet and a 28 oz tube runs 89 feet. With a 3/8" bead — recommended for tumbled products — a 10 oz tube covers 14 feet and a 28 oz tube covers 35 feet.
Solvent-based or polyurethane — which should I pick?
Pick solvent-based for strength in extreme temperatures — it extrudes down to 10°F and works on wet or frozen surfaces. Pick Rapid-Set Polyurethane when speed matters (60–90 minute firm set) or when bonding non-porous materials. For a straightforward wall-cap job in normal weather, either does the work.
Can I use it in cold weather?
Yes — that is this formula's specialty. It extrudes down to 10°F, bonds on wet or frozen surfaces, and low temperatures do not damage the tube in storage.
How do I make it set up faster?
Flash the adhesive: after pressing the cap or block into place, lift it for a couple of seconds and immediately reposition it. That exposure shortens the curing time. Full cure still takes 3–7 days depending on conditions.
Will it work on plastic or under water?
No. It is not for use on plastic, rubber or fiberglass, and not for continuous submersion or use below the waterline. It also is not suitable for direct contact with fire or fire brick.
How long does an open project stay workable?
Working time is 10 minutes — apply no more adhesive than you can cover in that window, and make a full positive connection between both surfaces.
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping is free on every order at Landscape Discount — adhesive cartons ship free with no minimum order.
