A 6.7' x 50' roll of reinforced grass protection mesh covering 335 square feet, and the first step up from standard grade. It is made for grassy areas that are driven or parked on frequently, where standard mesh would be working harder than it should and rutting is the risk you are buying against.

Constructed from high density foam polyethylene, which is non-toxic and lightweight, it is used in both residential and commercial applications where the grass needs increased support to keep growing properly under traffic.

06 A different question

Mesh Or A Cellular Grid?

Ground reinforcement means any system that increases the load-bearing capacity of soil or turf by spreading point loads across a wider area, so tires and footfall do not punch through soft ground. There are two broad families, and mesh is only one of them.

Choose mesh if…

You want a fast install with minimal base work. Loads are mostly pedestrians, carts and occasional to frequent cars or light trucks. You want a green, natural look year round, and you would rather not excavate.

Choose a cellular grid if…

Regular heavy vehicles or frequent turning loads are expected. The site needs high bearing capacity and tight surface performance. You can budget for excavation, base aggregate and compaction. That is a job for grass pavers.

Rule of thumb. For frequently used light-vehicle areas — cars, pickups, golf carts, UTVs — a reinforced grass mesh like this one is usually sufficient. For frequent heavy trucks or fire access lanes, look at grass pavers instead — a cellular system that confines aggregate or root-reinforced soil for higher load demands.

07 Installation

Installation

Five steps, surface laid. Tension and staple density are what determine whether it stays put.

  1. Unroll by reverse rolling. Unroll the mesh across the area by reverse rolling it out.
  2. Cut to length. Cut the mesh to the length you need with a utility knife, heavy duty scissors or a circular saw.
  3. Apply tension as you lay. Keep the mesh under tension so it makes adequate contact with the ground throughout.
  4. Butt the rows and staple. Lay additional rows by butting the long edges together, then secure all edges with 8″ turf staples every 3 feet.
  5. Add staples where needed. Place additional turf staples anywhere the mesh is not flush with the ground, or wherever more securing is required.
Safety notice — wet surface before establishment

Although this mesh is slip resistant, all variances in climate and ground conditions cannot be accounted for. Until the grass has grown through the mesh and become established, the mesh may become slippery if it becomes wet.

Special care should be taken if pedestrians walk on the mesh, particularly if they are wearing athletic shoes with spikes such as cleats or golf shoes.

08 Case study

City Park Overflow Parking

The site. A 9,000 square foot lawn beside a community park that fills every weekend. Soils were loam over clay, and rutting and mud were routine after rain.

The solution. Reinforced grass protection mesh in 6.7' x 50' rolls, pinned along the edges and through the field, with a light sand and soil topdress broomed in and the area irrigated to speed up knit-through.

The outcome, 8–10 weeks on. Turf had rooted through the mesh apertures, restoring a green surface that took weekend parking without rutting. How much mesh do I need?
Measure the area in square feet. This roll covers 335 square feet at 6.7' x 50'. Rows are butted rather than overlapped, so you only need to allow extra for cutting around obstacles.
How is this different from standard grade?
Frequency of use. Standard grade suits lightweight vehicles and heavy foot traffic. This reinforced grade is for areas driven or parked on frequently, where rutting is the specific risk. Above it sit MudStop® HG and then the GP-Flex 1800, which is the strongest grade stocked.
Is it slippery?
It is slip resistant, but not slip proof, and before the grass establishes it can become slippery when wet. Take particular care with pedestrians in spiked athletic shoes such as cleats or golf shoes until the turf has grown through. Once established, the grass surface governs.
Do I overlap the rows?
No. Butt the long edges together and secure all edges with 8″ turf staples every 3 feet.
How many staples do I need?
Enough for 3-foot centers along every edge including the butted joints, plus extra anywhere the mesh lifts away from the ground and at entrances or turning points. Staples come in cartons of 500.
How do I cut it?
A utility knife, heavy duty scissors or a circular saw. Reinforced mesh is stiffer than standard grade, which is why a saw is a listed option.
Should I use mesh or a cellular grid?
Mesh for a fast install with minimal base work, where loads are pedestrians, carts and cars or light trucks, and you want a green look. Will grass grow through it?
Yes, and that is the point. The turf roots through the apertures and knits into the mesh, which is what distributes loads. Once established the area mows normally.
Do I need a geogrid underneath?
Some applications do require additional soil stabilization beneath the mesh. It depends on the subgrade — if the ground is soft or the loads are at the upper end of what mesh handles, a geogrid below helps.
