Tenax GP-Flex 1800 Grass Protection Mesh — 6.7' x 66' Roll

A 6.7' x 66' roll covering 442 square feet, and the heaviest grade of grass protection mesh we stock. It is specified for frequently travelled areas that need genuine ground reinforcement rather than occasional protection — green driveways, unpaved courtyards, car parks and event grounds that see repeat vehicle movements.

What separates it is the extrusion process. GP-Flex is manufactured by a method that builds a slip-resistant surface into the mesh while keeping it flexible enough to conform to uneven ground — two properties that usually pull against each other. It is UV stabilized to resist ultraviolet breakdown.

Slip Resistance, Measured

GP-Flex has been tested for slip resistance to BS7976-2. Tested alongside other slip-resistant grass protection meshes, it showed an improvement of over 33% by comparison. That matters most in the wet, on a slope, or anywhere pedestrians share the surface with vehicles.

Why the slip figure matters here. On a venue or car park the surface carries people as well as cars, often in the wet. A mesh that grips is doing a safety job as much as a turf-protection one.

Built By Extrusion, Not Pressed Flat

Most mesh asks you to choose. A flat sheet conforms well to uneven ground but offers little grip once wet. A heavily ridged sheet grips but fights the contours and lifts at the edges.

GP-Flex is made by a distinct extrusion method that puts a slip-resistant surface into the material itself while keeping the sheet flexible enough to follow the ground. You get the grip without losing the contact, and full soil contact is what stops the mesh moving under load.

07 Installation

Installation

Five steps. The two details that matter are tensioning the mesh as you lay it, and butting the rows rather than overlapping them.

  1. Unroll by reverse rolling. Unroll the mesh by reverse rolling it out across the area.
  2. Cut to length. Cut the mesh to the length you need using a utility knife, heavy duty scissors or a circular saw.
  3. Apply tension as you lay. Keep the mesh under tension while laying so it makes adequate contact with the ground throughout. Slack is what allows movement under load.
  4. Butt the rows, then staple. Lay additional rows by butting the long edges together — not overlapping — then secure all edges with 8″ turf staples every 3 feet.
  5. Add staples where needed. Place additional turf staples anywhere the mesh is not flush with the ground, or wherever more securing is required.
Two things to get right. Tension and contact: mesh that bridges a hollow will move and eventually deform. And staple density: 3-foot centers is the minimum along edges, and uneven ground needs more.

Turf Staples

All edges are secured with 8″ turf staples at 3-foot centers, including the butted joints between rows, with extra added anywhere the mesh is not sitting flush against the ground.

Staples are sold separately in cartons of 500 and should be ordered with the mesh — the install stops without them.

How much mesh do I need?
Measure the area in square feet. This roll covers 442 square feet at 6.7' x 66'. Because rows are butted rather than overlapped, you do not need to allow extra for laps — just for any cutting waste around obstacles.
Do I overlap the rows?
No. Butt the long edges together, then secure all edges with 8″ turf staples every 3 feet. Overlapping creates a raised ridge that becomes a trip hazard and a mowing problem.
How many staples do I need?
Enough for 3-foot centers along every edge, including the butted joints between rows, plus extra anywhere the mesh is not flush with the ground. Uneven sites take noticeably more.
What makes it slip resistant?
The extrusion process builds a slip-resistant surface into the mesh rather than relying on a molded ridge pattern. Tested to BS7976-2 it showed over 33% improvement against comparable slip-resistant meshes.
Is it ADA compliant?
An ADA compliancy form is available in the documentation section above. Review it against your specific application, since compliance depends on the installed surface as a whole rather than the mesh alone.
How do I cut it?
A utility knife, heavy duty scissors or a circular saw. Heavier grade mesh is stiffer than lighter turf mesh, which is why a saw is a listed option.
Will the grass grow through?
Yes. Once established the grass grows up through the mesh and the reinforcement becomes largely invisible while continuing to protect the root zone underneath.
How does it compare to lighter mesh?
GP-Flex is the heaviest grade we stock, intended for frequently travelled areas. For occasional parking or foot traffic a lighter reinforced mesh is usually sufficient and considerably cheaper.
