Cell-Tek · LSG Series Load Support Grid · Model LSG-6

Cell-Tek LSG-6 is the deepest grid in the LSG Series at 6", rated to H20 loading and 80,000 lb axle loads. This is the specification for fire access lanes, commercial yards, ports and equipment storage — anywhere the surface has to take fully loaded trucks rather than passenger vehicles. At 6" of confinement it performs like 24"–30" of unconfined gravel while the total system thickness stays at 8", and it holds 3.2" of water storage. No gravel base is required — geotextile, grid, infill, 2" wear layer.

H20 Load Support For Heavy Trucks And Fire Access

Cell-Tek LSG-6 is the deepest grid in the LSG Series at 6", rated to H20 loading and 80,000 lb axle loads. This is the specification for fire access lanes, commercial yards, ports and equipment storage — anywhere the surface has to take fully loaded trucks rather than passenger vehicles.

At 6" of confinement it performs like 24"–30" of unconfined gravel while the total system thickness stays at 8", and it holds 3.2" of water storage. No gravel base is required — geotextile, grid, infill, 2" wear layer.

80,000lb axle loads · H20 · heavy trucks & fire access

Performs like 24"–30" of unconfined gravel at a total system thickness of 8".

02 Geocellular confinement

Cut Base Thickness By Up To Half

The grid confines infill and prevents lateral displacement, turning loose aggregate into a semi-rigid slab. That eliminates the rutting and washboarding normally associated with gravel pavements, and lets subgrade materials take more than ten times the cyclic load applications before deflection appears.

04 Where it gets used

Recommended Applications

The grid acts as a large mat, spreading load over an extended area and raising the load-bearing capacity of the surface above.

Porous pavements Driveways Parking lots Overflow parking areas Access roads Fire access lanes Boat ramps Ports & marinas Golf cart paths RV parking Trails & pathways Roadside shoulder reinforcement Pavement base support Permeable paver support
Reduce base thickness up to 50%. Confinement also reduces subgrade stress and installation cost, and allows lower-quality infill where good aggregate isn't locally available.

05 What you don't need

No Gravel Base Required

The LSG series does not require a gravel base. The cell depth and the compaction that happens inside the confined cells do that work instead. Lay an approved geotextile, set the grid, and fill — which saves both labor and material cost against a conventional build-up.

06 What you do need

Geotextile Fabric Beneath The Grid

A layer of geotextile fabric below the grid is required, to stop the infill working down into the soil beneath. The recommended DuPont fabrics are nonwoven geotextiles, which combine strength with free drainage.

07 Four ways to fill it

Fill With Gravel, Sand, Dirt Or Grass

The LSG series takes a range of infill types, so the same grid builds a reinforced grass driveway, a stable gravel surface, or an erosion-resistant dirt area.

LSG Series Compared

Cell depth sets the traffic class. All three share the same 8' × 22.5' grid, 180 sq ft coverage, 10.2" × 8.8" cells and 2" wear layer — the difference is what they'll carry.

LSG Accessories

A geotextile layer beneath the grid is required on every install. The expanded grid then has to be held in position while it is filled and compacted, or the cells shift and the panel creeps out of line.

18 inch rebar J hook anchor for the LSG Series grid

Rebar J-Hooks — 18"

JHR18

For LSG-3 and LSG-4 only

Holds the expanded grid down against the subgrade so it stays in position while the infill goes in and gets compacted.

24 inch rebar J hook anchor for the LSG Series grid

Rebar J-Hooks — 24"

JHR24

For LSG-6 only

The 6" cell depth needs the longer hook to reach far enough below the grid to hold. Use the 18" hook on the 3" and 4" grids.

19 Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How many grids do I need?
Each expanded grid is 8' × 22.5' and covers 180 square feet. Divide your total area by 180 for grid count, then add for cuts and waste around curves and edges.
Which depth should I choose?
Cell depth sets the traffic class. The 6" LSG-6 is the H20 option for heavy trucks and fire access lanes. The comparison table above sets out load ratings, system thickness and gravel equivalency for all three.
Do I really not need a gravel base?
Correct. The LSG series does not require a gravel base, because of the cell depth and the compaction that takes place inside the confined cells. You do still need a geotextile fabric layer beneath the grid, and a 2" surface wear layer above it.
Is the geotextile fabric optional?
No, it is required. Without it the infill works down into the soil below and the system loses its confinement. The recommended DuPont fabrics are nonwoven geotextiles that combine strength with free drainage.
What can I fill the cells with?
Gravel, sand, dirt or grass. The same grid builds a reinforced grass driveway, a stable gravel surface, or an erosion-resistant dirt area, and it also works as base support beneath concrete or asphalt pavers.
How much does one grid weigh?
LSG-6 weighs 75 lbs per grid, which is light enough to place by hand.
What subgrade does it need?
Greater than 3% CBR, a normal hard surface. Geocellular confinement also helps create pavements over soft soil subgrades where an unconfined build-up would fail.
Do I need the J-hook anchors?
The CAD details for both non-vegetated porous paving and vegetated green paving show J-hook anchoring. Specifications and placement for the 18" and 24" hooks are linked in the CAD section above.
What does shipping cost?
Nothing — shipping is free on all orders. See the transit map above for approximate ground delivery times.
