Sealant Tape For Joining Barrier Rolls

A 20 foot roll of sealant tape for joining DeepRoot water barrier and bamboo barrier sheets. Rolls join vertically or horizontally with this tape, and it is the only correct way to close a lap — no heat welding, no adhesive, no specialist tooling.

On an impermeable barrier the joints are the whole game. The HDPE sheet itself does not leak, so every failure mode is at a lap, a corner or a splice. An untaped overlap is a hole in an otherwise continuous wall, and it will be found by water, rhizomes or roots long before you notice it — by which point it is buried behind backfill.

02 Why it matters

The Joint Is The Weak Point

A barrier run is only as continuous as its laps. Taping both faces of every overlap turns two sheets into one continuous wall, which is the whole premise of an impermeable barrier. Skipping it does not weaken the barrier slightly — it opens a specific, findable gap at a known location.

04 Using it

Taping A Lap

  1. Overlap the sheets. Bring the two edges together with a generous overlap rather than butting them.
  2. Clean and dry the surfaces. Tape will not bond through soil, dust or moisture — wipe the lap area before you start.
  3. Tape the joint. Run the tape the full height of the lap, pressing it down firmly along its length.
  4. Inspect before backfilling. Walk the run and check every joint. This is the last chance to see them.

Sealant Tape FAQs

How much tape do I need?
Work out the total height of every lap in the run and add a margin. A single roll gives 20 feet of tape, so a run with several joints at 36″ deep will use one roll comfortably, while a long multi-joint perimeter may need more.
Do I have to tape the joints?
On an impermeable barrier, yes. The sheet does not leak, so every weak point is a lap. An untaped overlap is a gap at a known location, and it will be behind backfill by the time it matters.
Can I use regular duct tape instead?
This tape is intended for the job and stays bonded to HDPE in buried service. General purpose tapes are not formulated for long-term contact with soil and moisture, and a joint that releases underground cannot be inspected or repaired without excavating it.
Does it work on both vertical and horizontal joints?
Yes — barrier sheets join vertically or horizontally with the same tape.
