NDS Tufftrack Grassroad Pavers turn grass into a surface that carries vehicles. Rigid 2' × 2' panels clip together top-down and fill with topsoil and seed, or with gravel. A webbed cell base spreads the load and stops the panel cutting into the ground. Each panel carries 120 nested honeycomb cells with shared walls, rated to H-20 and H-25 loading, so it carries fire trucks and emergency vehicles while turf grows through. The pick for emergency access roads, parking lots, cart and jogging paths, and driveway widening.

Tufftrack Grassroad Pavers are manufactured in rigid 24" square panels for maximum strength. Unfilled compressive strength is 86,563 psf, rising to 400,000 lbs once the cells are filled with native soil, and the panel is rated for H-20 and H-25 loading — enough to carry fire trucks while turf grows through. The cells are moulded in polypropylene containing recycled content and treated with UV inhibitors, making these pavers a sustainable alternative in high-traffic areas that would otherwise be covered with asphalt or concrete.

The large 2' × 2' panel installs faster and more easily than smaller pavers on the market, and the TT-24 has been trusted for over ten years in both residential and commercial applications. It is commonly used to widen residential driveways for additional vehicle parking.

06 Before you order

Installation

  • Tufftrack is laid over a prepared base. The build-up depends on the load class — see the installation diagram and the CAD detail that matches your application. NDS also publishes a No Sub Base detail for applications that allow it.
  • Best used in areas where the subsoil infiltrates water. Poor draining soil may require an underdrain.

Installation overview

  1. Lay pavers out over the prepared base. Set the panels in position across the area.
  2. Clip the panels together. Use the tongue-and-groove locking system to join them into an integral paver mat.
  3. Add soil infill. Fill the cells, then top with sod or seed. See the technical guide for details.
  4. Check periodically. Inspect for damage and replace individual panels as needed; see the maintenance and operation guide.
Load capacity depends on the full section, not just the panel. The panel is rated to H-20 and H-25, but for fire lanes and emergency access follow the CAD detail that matches your load class and confirm depth and establishment requirements with your local authority.

10 Design note

Infill And Subsoil Drainage

Cells are filled with soil and topped with sod or seed. Tufftrack works best where the subsoil actually infiltrates water — that is what carries the runoff away and keeps the root zone healthy. On poor-draining soils, plan for an underdrain rather than relying on infiltration alone.

Edge restraint is worth adding at perimeters and wherever traffic transitions to another surface, to hold alignment and protect the turf edge.

Each TT-24 panel is 2' × 2' and covers 4 square feet. Divide your total area by 4 for panel count, then add for cuts and waste around curves and edges.
Do I need an aggregate base?
Tufftrack goes over a prepared base, and the build-up depends on the load class. NDS publishes CAD details for light, medium and fire/heavy load, plus a No Sub Base detail. Check the installation diagram for your application, and note that poor-draining soil may need an underdrain.
Can Tufftrack handle fire trucks?
Yes. The panel is rated for H-20 and H-25 loading, with an unfilled compressive strength of 86,563 psf rising to 400,000 lbs once the cells are filled with native soil. Build to the fire and heavy load detail and confirm requirements with your local authority.
Can I fill it with gravel instead of grass?
