The Sleeve-It 1224R was a patented, code-compliant fence post anchoring system that integrated stable fence footings into the support structure of a segmental retaining wall while the wall was being built. Sold as a carton of four 24″ × 12″ units. It has been superseded by the Sleeve-It SD-1, which is the current version of the same system.

The Current Version Of This System

The Sleeve-It 1224R is no longer manufactured. Its replacement, the Sleeve-It SD-1, is the same pre-engineered fence post anchoring system in current production: a cantilevered sleeve installed behind the wall face during construction, so the fence load is carried by the soil mass behind the wall instead of the dry-stacked wall units.

If you are specifying a wall now, or matching an existing installation, order the SD-1. Each carton contains five units — one per fence post — and the unit measures 23.4″ high by 15.3″ wide by 30.6″ deep.

02 What it did

Footings Built Into The Wall

The 1224R integrated stable fence footings into the support structure of the wall while the wall was being constructed. Using it as part of the segmental retaining wall eliminated the 3 foot offset requirement for rails and fences added after wall construction — reducing specifier liability and the costs that come with building-code compliance, and providing a below-grade engineered design rather than a surface fix.

Can I still buy the 1224R?
No. The original Sleeve-It 1224R has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available. It was replaced by the Sleeve-It SD-1, which is in current production.
Is the SD-1 a direct replacement?
It is the updated version of the same system and does the same job — anchoring fence posts in the reinforced soil behind a segmental retaining wall so the fence can sit at the top of the wall. The unit dimensions and carton quantity differ, so check the SD-1 specifications when sizing an order.
I have 1224R units on site — can I mix them with SD-1?
They are different units with different dimensions, so treat them as separate details rather than assuming they interchange within a run. Confirm the arrangement with your wall designer before combining old and current stock in one wall.
How many units do I need for the SD-1?
One per fence post. The SD-1 comes five to a carton, so divide the fence run by your post spacing and round up to the nearest carton.
